- Phabricator group memberships are incomplete or outdated.
Absence of a repo-specific commit bit does not preclude commitment to the repo. To tell where a person has committed, you can seek their FreeBSD username (the first part of their email address) in the cgit interfaces to doc, ports, and src. For example:
– Pau Amma (doc committer) has also committed to the src repo.
History
Prior to 2007: access to FreeBSD servers was restricted to people with a commit bit (write access) for any of the primary source code repositories: doc, ports, src, and www. These people were known as committers. Access was provided in the form of a Unix account, and came with a @FreeBSD.org email address.
In 2007: restrictions were eased, for other people — and groups — to gain accounts and @FreeBSD.org email addresses. This broadening allowed inclusion of those who have a long-term involvement with the FreeBSD Project.
The first were people who were granted access to the Problem Report database (GNATS at the time, now Bugzilla) for issue triage and management, without having a commit bit.
This generalized the concept for the Project from committer to developer.

Wiki groups for Contributors and Developers
Contributors to FreeBSD can join the ContributorsGroup. This group includes FreeBSD participants in Google Summer of Code.
FreeBSD developers can join the DevelopersGroup group, which provides minor additional permissions for a few wiki pages.
To request membership of either group, you can use Bugzilla.
