Maps

Map of Linuxhotel and surrounding area.

Linuxhotel

Linuxhotel Villa Vogelsang is a hotel inside of a historical mansion. It is regarded as "one of the most unusual hotels in the Ruhr area". The nine guest rooms and suites as well as two meeting and seminar rooms are equipped with extensive technical facilities to conduct meetings and seminars on the topics of Linux and free software. The hotel and seminar rooms and the surrounding park are networked via Ethernet and wireless LAN.

During work days the Linuxhotel offers Linux and free software courses (e.g. FreeBSD, OpenBSD, pf, etc).

The venue and surrounding area offers a lot of activities for partners and children, so consider bringing them along to spend the weekend there.

Logistics

The Linuxhotel is located in the city of Essen. The next airports are Düsseldorf (DUS), Köln/Bonn (CGN) and Dortmund (DTM). Frankfurt/Main (FRA) is also an option, although a bit further south. From there you can reach Essen by train. Use this page (Google translate) to check how to get there. Contact lme@ for details.

Accommodation

The Linuxhotel offers a maximum of 27 beds for accommodation. There are some single rooms but there are also double rooms for share.

Item

Price

Camping in the park is also possible for a small fee.

Proposed room occupancy plan

TBD

Social Event on Saturday Evening

We're planning a Guided Tour on Saturday evening to the Zollverein (coal mine, industry museum), followed by a dinner there. If you are interested, please indicate that by adding yes in the appropriate column in the travel coordination table below. If you are not interested, you can stay at the hotel and have dinner there. Please indicate that as well, so we can arrange something for you.

Weekend activities

Non-exhaustive list of some non-FreeBSD activities (for families, significant others):

Network access

Wireless all around the hotel and park, wired Ethernet in all hotel rooms, seminar rooms and even in the park. ;-)

Power

Germany uses CEE 7 standards and Europlug: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_power_plugs_and_sockets#CEE_7_standards_and_Europlug

Munch, Munch

Breakfast

Available at the hotel from 09:00 to 10:00.

Lunches

On Saturday and Sunday we can order pizza or Doener for lunch or have barbeque in the park if the wheather is good.

Dinner places

Depending on the arrival time of the participants we plan to do a welcome BBQ in the park when the weather is good on Friday evening.

In case of bad weather there's a restaurant which offers home cooking (i.e., solid, plain, but tasty meals like Schnitzel, etc.): http://www.hausgrossjung.de/

Most people seem to leave on Sunday afternoon, but we'll make sure that you get some kind of lunch before leaving.

Travel coordination / Attendee list

Deadline for registration is June 15th, 2017. You can co-ordinate travel here:
