FreeBSD Developer Summit, March 19-20th, 2020

This page describes the March 2020 FreeBSD Developer Summit, colocated with AsiaBSDCon 2020, which will take place in Tokyo, Japan. This is a by-invitation event. FreeBSD committers will be welcome to register themselves using this wiki; non-committers must be sponsored by a committer to attend. Attendees must also attend AsiaBSDCon 2020 in order to access all devsummit activities. Consider making a donation to the FreeBSD Foundation to support this effort.

Travel Information

For attendees traveling via Haneda (HND) airport: Starting in March 2020, the International Terminal will be renamed to Terminal 3. Make sure to check your arrival and departure flight details for this change. You can find more information on the All Nippon Airlines (ANA) website.

The FreeBSD developer summit will take place on the 19th and 20th of March on the same days as the AsiaBSDCon tutorials. Many developers will arrive a few days before the event to get rid of jet lag before things kick off. Most developers will stay on through AsiaBSDCon to give and attend talks. It is an excellent conference--a good FreeBSD developer showing has countless benefits, not least the opportunity to tell the world what we're doing.

Working Groups

These sessions are intended to get developers with common areas of interest or specific projects in mind together for collaboration and hacking. They might involve prepared presentations, structured code reading, or a notebook-assisted whiteboard session.

Devsummit Dinner

A devsummit group dinner at the Japanese restaurant Hokkaido was booked for Thursday, March 19, at 18:30. The menu will cost 4500 JPY. Vegetarians or people with food allergies/sensitivities have to order a la carte menu at the restaurant. A tablet is available on each table to place orders after sitting down. Please tell the staff if you want a vegetarian meal or select vegetarian dishes from the menu on the tablet.

The restaurant can be reached by using the JR Sobu Line Iidabashi Station West Exit (1-minute walk), or via Subway Iidabashi Station B2b exit (1-minute walk). Restaurant address: Central plaza building 20F, 1-1, Kaguragashi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, 162-0823

There is no organized dinner on Friday, March 20. Developers can form small groups and find food in Tokyo on their own.

Attendees

In order to attend, you must register in advance; this allows us to size rooms, order food, and provide beverages. We appreciate your cooperation in letting us know your plans well in advance of the event. Non-committers must be sponsored by a committer in order to attend. Due to increased attendance in recent years, companies are limited to one non-committer unless permission is explicitly granted by the organizers. Registration will start in February 2020.
