HP Notebook 15-af104ur (ENERGY STAR)

Hardware Overview

Notes

Rather cheap-looking, inexpensive laptop with mediocre screen and craftsmanship. It got my interest solely because of AMD APU (unfortunately, Intel rules these days, and almost no vendors except HP and Lenovo produce AMD-based laptops).

Comes with Windows 10 preinstalled. Getting into UEFI BIOS is possible by pressing F9 (as I vaguely recall) early in the boot process. Disabling SecureBoot allowed to boot off USB memstick, flashed with 11.0-CURRENT-r295683; vt(4) is required if you want to see anything on the console. KMS appears to work with radeonkms.ko. X11 was not tested.

ACPI issues

Suspend/resume does not work, in somewhat special way: looks like laptop fails to suspend (tried with zzz(8)), and after some dmesg(8) message storm you'll find yourself back at the command prompt (keyboard also remains working). ACPI-related errors in the logs:

ACPI Error: No handler for Region [RCM0] (0xfffff80003dac080) [SystemCMOS] (20150818/evregion-176)
ACPI Error: Region SystemCMOS (ID=5) has no handler (20150818/exfldio-317)
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\134_SB.WMID.ESDT] (Node 0xfffff80003dc0a00), AE_NOT_EXIST (20150818/psparse-558)
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\134_SB.PCI0.LPC0.EC0._Q42] (Node 0xfffff80003dc1e00), AE_NOT_EXIST (20150818/psparse-558)
acpi_ec0: evaluation of query method _Q42 failed: AE_NOT_EXIST

Possible remedy for immediate resume due to SystemCMOS

<!> Apparently, this is a common problem with many contemporary HP laptops, and happens due to FreeBSD's lack of an ACPI CMOS RTC handler. See Laptops/HP_Envy_6Z-1100 page (there is a patch).
