FreeBSD Matrix Service

As of September 2023, FreeBSD's Matrix service is considered experimental and in beta.

Please note that there is no service level agreement (SLA) or data preservation guarantee. This server is only for experimental and feedback purposes.

Server

The FreeBSD Project hosts a Matrix instance at matrix-dev.freebsd.org for project spaces and rooms.

FreeBSD committers can use it as their homeserver:

use your freefall username (without the @freebsd.org suffix) and kerberos password to login and gain an id:matrix-dev.freebsd.org identity
when the beta ends, matrix-dev will be removed

Other users must choose an alternative homeserver. Servers with open registration:

Clients

To reduce the risk of losing a key and becoming unable to decrypt history: verify at least two client connections.

Element clients

Mobile, desktop, and Web: https://element.io/download.

FreeBSD Project-hosted Element web: https://element-dev.freebsd.org/ – for matrix-dev.freebsd.org ID holders only.

Element X: https://element.io/labs/element-x – fastest, beta (status).

Either browse https://matrix.org/ecosystem/clients/, or use the Change option that appears in matrix.to dialogues.
