Consider booking an open jaw flight: fly to Ottawa (YOW) for BSDCan, and return from Toronto (YYZ) after the hackathon.

Suggest VIA Rail train from Ottawa to Kitchener on Sunday May 19. About $150 one-way taxes incl. Greyhound bus no longer runs but other options may be available? Either option is about 8-10h total.

Or, fly from YOW-YYZ and use GO train, VIA train, or bus from Toronto to Kitchener-Waterloo.

Kitchener-Toronto is about $20 by GO train, VIA train (with advance purchase), or bus. Carpooling is likely available between Toronto and Waterloo.

Air

The closest major airport is Toronto Pearson (YYZ), about 100km away. There is no scheduled service from Ottawa to The Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF).

Toronto Pearson (YYZ) is about 100km from Kitchener-Waterloo; bus and train connections exist but are somewhat inconvenient - emaste@ can provide advice based on the time of day you fly. Airways Transit shared van service is available; a taxi from the airport is about $150 CAD.

There is (or was?) a flight from downtown Toronto's Billy Bishop airport (YTO) to YKF, perhaps useful if someone wants to spend some time in Toronto.

University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University offer student residences for summer accommodation. Some are hotel/apartment style with a private bedroom and washroom, some are student dorms with shared facilities. Prices are about $70-$110/night.
