History of Supported Guest Operating Systems
bhyve has supported a number of guests since being introduced into guest. While the main bhyve page lists the currently vendor supported operating systems, this is a historical view for those that need to perform operating system research.
The guests below may or may not work on current releases of bhyve. The developer and testing teams only test functionality of guests that are in current support of the upstream vendor.
Guests can boot either using the sysutils/grub2-bhyve (only some) or sysutils/uefi-edk2-bhyve (most modern systems) ports
- FreeBSD 8.4-RELEASE and newer, including CURRENT
- OpenBSD amd64/i386 5.2 and newer
- GNU/Linux amd64/i386 (Many distributions, some listed below)
- NetBSD amd64 6.1 and newer
- SmartOS 20151001 and newer
- Windows x64 Vista, 7, 8, 10
- Windows Server 2008r2, 2012r2, 2016, 2019
- CentOS/RHEL 6.2 to 6.10, 7.0 to 7.9 and 8.0 to 8.3
- Debian 6.0.7, 7.0, 7.6 netinstall i386/amd64
- Fedora 20 and above
- openSUSE 12.3 and 13.1 amd64
