The ports tree will follow upstream will and remove gtk2 options where possible, ie if a project has a gtk3 or gtk4 interface available and of at least equivalent usability to the gtk2 interface. Actively maintained or supported projects that have not migrated to or made available equivalent-usability gtk3 or gtk4 interface shall not be deprecated under this provision. The existence of other projects having similar use-cases to those using gtk2 also shall not be used as justification.
There is no plan yet to remove gtk2 entirely, this will be revised on regular basis depending on dependent ports
