802.11n support
Overview
net80211 supports 802.11n STA, hostap and monitor modes. IBSS/adhoc and 802.11s have not been tested.
Features
The following features have been actively tested and used by the developers (this list isn't exhaustive):
- 802.11n STA and hostap operation
- 802.11n 1, 2, 3 stream devices
- 1, 2, 3 stream STBC RX/TX negotiation (space-time block coding)
- MIMO powersave negotiation
- 11g/11ng coexistence
- 11a/11na coexistence
- HT/20 and HT/40 channel support, along with 20/40MHz STA coexistence
The following 802.11n features would be nice in the short term:
- 802.11n LDPC encoding
- 802.11n DFS support - the current support only functions with 802.11a channels
- 802.11n rate control/selection in net80211 - currently, the rate control modules in net80211 only know about legacy rates
Chipset Support
Some of the wireless drivers support 802.11n. The following is an incomplete list.
- iwn (Intel) NICs - 4965, perhaps others; STA mode only
- ath 11n series NICs (AR5416, AR9130, AR9160, AR9280, AR9285, AR9287, AR94xx, AR95xx) - STA/AP mode, TX and RX aggregation
- mwl NICs (88W8363 802.11n NIC)
- rsu (RTL8188SU / RTL81892SU)
- urtwn (RTL8188CU / RTL8188RU / RTL8188EU / RTL8192CU)
